We have success in moving students with learning needs on to independence and to a level suited to high school learning. Our Associate Principal has a strong background in special education and oversees remedial and support programmes as well as programmes for new speakers of English.

Kowhai has a small learning support class which enables students with intellectual and learning needs to be integrated in the full life of the school while retaining the security of appropriate routines and individualised educational programmes.

There are two Resource Teachers: learning and behaviour (RTLB) based at the school and we have excellent contacts with agencies outside the school to support students with learning and/or behaviour needs.
