Kowhai has a strong tradition that is reflected in the school houses (Burns, Parr, Garrard and Rudman).

Each teacher and student is a member of one of the school houses. These provide a chance for students from right across the school to mix together for events and competitions.

The house points competition is used as a motivation to become fully and positively involved in school life.
