Home-School Communications
School newsletters are sent home with students three or four times per term. Whanau letters will come home advising of class and whanau events as they occur. Homework books are a great way to send messages back to your child's teacher. You may also email the teacher or phone and leave a message for him or her to call you.

During the course of the year there are various events, performances, information evenings etc. that parents are urged to attend. These will be notified through newsletters and on our school website. The school website is www.kowhai.school.nz and this is regularly updated with events, reports, homework support and general school information.

Reporting to Parents
At Kowhai, our Portfolio system forms the basis of our reporting programme. Portfolios are a regularly updated folder containing annotated samples of students' work and tests. These are sent home for parents to view at the end of Terms 2, 3 and 4. At the end of Term 1, a student and teacher evaluation of essential skills and work habits is provided. At the end of Terms 2 and 4 an Achievement Summary Report is sent home with the portfolios to give an overview of student achievement across the curriculum.

At the beginning of Term 2 we hold 3-way Interviews when students, their parents and teachers meet to review the first term and to set learning goals for the rest of the year. Parents can seek an interview with their child's teacher at anytime during the rest of the school year.
