Prepare:

BEFORE YOU START WRITING YOUR SPEECH:

PURPOSE - Why are you writing your speech? Is it to:

ENTERTAIN	- Use funny stories, jokes and humour.
EDUCATE	- Use facts, figures and give examples. Show credibility and limit jargon.
INSPIRE OR PERSUADE	- Use personal stories and loads of enthusiasm.
NARRATE	- Be very expressive and create interest.

THINK ABOUT:

Audience - yours peers / classmates ( Kowhai students)

Timing - usually 2 - 3 minutes

Venue - in front of class (or school hall if selected as a finalist)
