Oxfam hunger banquet

Kowhai Intermediate School hosted the very first Oxfam Hunger Banquet to be run in New Zealand. The purpose of the event was to highlight world poverty figures and show how a small proportion of the people control the majority of the world's resources. To illustrate this 20 students were randomly selected to partake of a 'feast' at the head table while the other 380 students were given a single piece of bread.

Celebrity guest presenters, actor, Claire Chitham and C4’s Joel Defries hosted the event, entertaining and educating our students on the issues surrounding world poverty.
