A Day in the Life of Kowhai Intermediate School
Kowhai Open Mornings
Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th August 2018, 915am - 11:30am
We have two days where we invite our local contributing schools to come to Kowhai so that their students can see what they will get to do if they enrol at Kowhai. Small groups visit each area of the school where their will be a short presentation around one aspect of our programme or school life. Parents are welcome to attend with their child.
Students and whanau from outside our zone or usual contributing schools are welcome to attend - please contact email@example.com if you need more information.
Parent Information Evening
Wednesday 8th August 2018, 7:00pm-8:00pm in hall
This presentation is geared towards parents and caregivers where our school leaders will discuss our school vision and the curriculum directors will talk about their respective programs. There will be opportunities to ask questions and talk to the staff who presented.
School Tour ~ Meet the Principals
Principal Louise Broad, our associate principal Barbara Cloonan, or our deputy principal Tom Mackintosh are very happy to meet with you to pay attention to your expectations and your child’s particular needs. We will spend time with you answering your questions, showing you around the school, introducing you to teachers or observing programmes. Just call or email to make an appointment.
You have automatic right of enrolment at Kowhai if you live in our zone. Follow this link to see a list of the streets in the Kowhai zone. Entry to our Maori unit is by application.
Out of Zone (for 2019 academic year)
The cut off date for out of zone applications has passed and the ballot has been drawn - we cannot accept any further out of zone applications.
Applications for out of zone enrolments close on 5th September and the ballot will be conducted on Wednesday 12th September 2018.
Out of zone applications cannot be accepted or considered after the 5th of September 2018.
Each year the school will analyse the projected in-zone enrolment figures and decide on how many places we can offer to students who live out of our zone. If we receive more applications than we have places we will conduct a ballot to select these students. All out of zone applications must be received before the deadline which is usually around mid August (we will update this once the date is confirmed). There are Ministry of Education rules and guidelines about how this process is run - you can read more about them here. * Our Maori and Samoan language classes qualify as 'special programmes' under these guidelines.
If your child is accepted via the ballot please let us know as soon as possible if you will take up the offer. We start planning for staffing and resources well before 2019 so we require firm numbers on our 2019 roll. There is a waiting list for those whose names were not drawn from the ballot so any placement not taken up will be offered to another student.
2018 BYOD, Stationery & Uniform
BYOD - Please bring a Chromebook to school
We have two different companies who are able to supply you with what you will need for the start of the year:
Purple school are the new education supply division of The Warehouse Group. They offer a 'one stop shop' online order service and can provide uniform, stationery and chromebooks. At the moment they only 'open for business' over the Christmas/New Year/ start of school year period at purpleschool.co.nz.
It is yet to be confirmed if Purple School will run for 2019.
A link to our school uniform as sold by The Warehouse can be found here - or you can go to their main website and type 'Kowhai Intermediate' into the search bar.
If you prefer you can view, try on and buy the uniform in-store at The Warehouse in Wagener Place across the road from St Luke's shopping centre.
Ordering Online via Purple School or Office Max:
Both websites will ask you to select our school (type in 'Kowhai' and select it from the drop down list) and then enter your child's name and year level (7 or 8). If they ask you for a code, ID or enrolment number you can leave that blank.
If you are ordering online please check through the item list carefully before confirming your purchase - you may need to deselect some of the optional items due to the way the suppliers present the list. You can deselect any items you already have. You may also want to compare pricing between suppliers.
2018 School Fees and Donations
Annual optional and voluntary donation for one child: $300
Two or more children per family: $450
The Board of Trustees asks all families for a optional and voluntary donation to contribute to school funds. This goes towards additional learning resources not funded by the government and covers resources that all students benefit from such as 'take home' items from the technology and arts programmes, additional devices such as the school chromebook computers and subsidising the cost of visiting experts and field trips. A receipt will be provided and this may be used for tax deduction purposes. All and any donations will be used to enhance students' learning and help Kowhai provide the best possible programmes.
Please submit the following two documents to enrol:
