Kia Ora,

Welcome to Kōwhai Intermediate School, New Zealand's first Intermediate School.

My name is Johanna Wrack, and I am privileged to be the Tumuaki/Principal here at Kōwhai Intermediate.

Kōwhai Intermediate has a proud 100-year legacy, built on the founding motto, FIAT LUX—to shine light, reflecting the concept of Te Ao Mārama. Like the unique Kōwhai tree, our school stands out brilliantly, providing a place of sustenance, belonging, and exploration where our students grow and thrive through change.

I bring my passion for education, including a Master of Contemporary Education and a personal commitment to nurturing our students to be the best version of themselves.

My core focus for every student is to:

Maximise achievement and actively engage in their learning.
Be proud of their identity, who they are and where they come from.
Develop into successful leaders with integrity, who take ownership of their learning journey.
Feel safe, confident, and comfortable to learn and, most importantly, have fun!

Our shared vision is to "fly further together," encouraging every student to push new boundaries and grow as a global citizen.
